Forget body language, sales skill or your product knowledge. You could be dead in the water if you’re voice isn’t right.
In this video Dr. Nick Morgan explains why having a high pitched voice could be a serious handicap as a professional salesperson.
It comes down to the fact that when people speak at the bottom of their vocal range they sound calm, cool, collected and confident. All the traits needed to sell a product or pitch a service to a prospect.
When the listener hears a higher pitched voice and they don’t have a reference that this is how you naturally sound, all of the time they assume that your voice is high for a reason.
That you’re stressed, panicked and nervous (Nick demonstrates this beautiful in the video).
This doesn’t mean that sales isn’t for you if you have a naturally higher pitched voice.
It does mean you need to be concious of it and keep it as low as is comfortable when you’re speaking with authority in front of a prospect.
